Architect

Location

Shelter Island, NY

Completion date

2010

In this endeavor, a Victorian residence spanning 7,000 square feet along the waterfront underwent a complete reorientation to align with contemporary living standards, all while preserving the historical context of its 1880 origin. DRPILLA played a key role, offering comprehensive structural and civil design services from initial approval through to the project's successful completion.

A Down-to-the-Studs Renovation

The house is constructed with wood framing, clad in clapboard siding, and adorned with stone veneer. In the renovation process, the foundation of the existing house was completely replaced, and temporary shoring frames were employed to elevate and support the existing structure. Notably, the house underwent a reorientation during the renovation, with the formal entry now positioned to face the vehicular approach and pool. The turreted porch has been extended to encircle the house, offering panoramic views of the bay.

Site Design for Picturesque Outdoor Living

Included in our scope of work was the evaluation of the 1.17-acre site for pre-development and post-development runoff. In turn, a complete stormwater drainage analysis and site plan was developed.
